Dr. Rebecca Jacques
I have been an NHS doctor for 17 years, and during this time I have specialised in women’s health.
I founded Time To Pause, to give women the time and space to be heard, supported, and prioritise their well-being during challenging times. It’s also a chance for women to pause and reflect on what really matters to them, and explore available options.
I am passionate about improving women’s well being and long term health. I understand how perimenopausal, menopausal and hormonal imbalances can affect not only a woman’s quality of life, but also her work and most importantly family life.
At Time to Pause I take a personalised, holistic approach to women’s health. NO TWO WOMEN ARE THE SAME -whether this is helping with hot flushes, anxiety, a premature menopause or years post-menopause. If you’re on HRT and want to explore other options, or have a complex medical or gynaecological history, I’m here to help.
I can also provide information to Women who have transitioned through the menopause and wish to better understand its impact on cardiovascular and metabolic health.
I strongly believe in early intervention, addressing risk factors to prevent long term health issues. My background as an NHS GP, with additional training in diabetes and metabolic health, has highlighted how oestrogen deficiency affects multiple organs- contributing to insulin resistance, changes in lipids and blood pressure. These factors should be regulary screened in women to prevent future health complications.
About me
I studied medicine at Warwick Medical School after first completing a degree in Biomedical Sciences at Manchester University. My decision to become a GP stemmed from a particular interest in preventative medicine and a passion for engaging with patients about what really matters to them.
From an early stage in my medical career I was drawn to women’s health and I sought to deepen my expertise in this area. I completed additional diplomas from Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (DRCOG) and the Faculty of Reproductive and Sexual Health (DipFRSH) to further my qualifications.
I also obtained further competences to become a family planning GP within the NHS, I have been fitting intrauterine coils and implants regulary over the past 12 years.
My interest in women’s health only grew stronger and I went on to train with the British Menopause Society (BMS). Following several years of studying and working along side specialists in a dedicated NHS menopause clinic, I achieved an Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care and am now a BMS Registered Specialist. I am a member of the British Menopause Society, International Menopause Society and Primary Care and Women’s Health Forum. This allows me to offer the most up to date and evidence-based treatments.
Over the years as a GP I have also developed an interest in Diabetes and Cardiorenal Metabolic Medicine. Ten years ago, I obtained a Certificate in Diabetes Care (CICD) from Warwick University and I am the diabetic lead at an NHS practice. What has this got to do with women’s health you may ask? Well, the transition into the menopause can herald an increased risk of chronic disease, including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and insulin resistance. With or without hormones, I am passionate about addressing these risk factors and looking at what can be done to reduce them. I am a member of Cardio Renal Metabolic Medicine UK, Primary Care Cardiovascular Society and Primary Care Diabetes UK.
I am passionate about education and teaching and in 2018 I became a GP trainer for the Royal College of General Practitioners. Training our future GP’s, particularly in women’s health and Menopause, is vital to ensure women’s health is in safe hands.
Finally in November 2024 I was appointed GP Lead for Women’s Health in Coventry and Warwickshire.
